How should the Cleveland Bride, or any other, find Mr right (photographer).

This post is actually my advice to the bride on how to go about finding and hiring a professional wedding photographer.

step#1. Find out what your taste is in photography. Look at as many websites as you can (including the sites I have listed as links on this blog). Look at the books and prints from your friend’s and relatives’ weddings. Go to a bridal fair or 2. When you have a sense of the range and type of photography out there, you are ready for …

Step#2 Find at least 3 wedding photographers you like. You need extras in case the photographer is already booked, over your budget, or is not someone you click with when you meet him (or her).

Step#3 Compare the online files to the prints and albums you are shown when you meet with the photographer. The quality should not drop off significantly and for my taste, should not be over photo-shopped. This means the files were not great and needed work to be acceptable. This should not be confused with a photographer’s work that includes photoshop work as part of the photographer’s style.

Step#4 Make sure the photographer has no problem with the shots you are sure you will want. If you want a lot of posed shots, or detail shots, or candids, Make sure the photographer has no qualms about doing the shots. Remember, you can be as sweet as your nature dictates but always remember the golden rule. Whoever has the gold, makes the rules.

Step#5 If the price is too high or you must have the files, ask. What’s the worst the photographer can say…no?
