Be careful what you wish for. I enjoy photographing unusual weddings but many come with challenges. In the case of Meagan and Matt in their masquerade wedding over New Year’s Eve weekend, the challenge was a very large venue, very high ceilings, with very low light for photography and a lot of mirrors. It took a scouting visit to the wedding rehearsal and a lot of thought before I could come up with a plan. I would have to use large output strobes bounced off the walls and ceiling. You might think that this kind of lighting is too powerful but actually, by the time the light travels off a high ceiling, it is no more objectionable than on-camera flash.
So as things now stand, I will carry and use more lighting than most photographers. I use available light when I can, such as when I shoot outdoors. My style will stay photo journalistic and candid but I will continue to use lighting when it is necessary.
